Through everyday life, personal memories, familiar places, and small discoveries, we want to make the many sides of Newark more visible.
Ordinary, overlooked, personal, or seemingly insignificant experiences can tell us something meaningful about the place we share.
Today, we can encounter events and perspectives from around the world with ease. Yet understanding our relationship with the place where we live is a different kind of discovery.
Connection to a community does not always begin with a conversation. Sometimes, we discover later that others use the same places, have had similar experiences, or see things in entirely different ways.
Bringing these perspectives together may help us see our surroundings, and one another, a little differently.
We are not here to tell one definitive story about Newark or to guide people toward a predetermined ideal.
We are starting by making room for different perspectives, and seeing what gathers, what becomes visible, and what may emerge from it.
As the project develops, we hope it can become a way to discover people, places, ideas, and possibilities that might otherwise go unnoticed.
A place is more than its reputation. It is made of the lives, experiences, and perspectives of the people who know it.
newarkfront is just getting started. Over time, we hope to contribute to Newark in practical, tangible ways, too. We are still discovering what that can look like.
